FAQ.
Why should I do functional training?
Functional fitness training uses everyday movements and no sport specific movement so its a great way to develop all over fitness which encourages ease of movement in your daily life. There is freedom with movement in this type of training because its done on all 3 planes, sagittal (left and right), frontal (front and back) and transverse (top and bottom) which allows for a huge exercise variation- it stays interesting
How does functional training help lose weight?
Daily “functional” activities can be difficult for people who are overweight. Functional training is movement with resistance on different planes, so it is the most active form of movement for weight loss. None of the exercises are supported which means the body has to work as a whole unit. This is the key to weight loss. The more you move the more you can move.
How quickly will I see the benefits of my training?
You will feel the benefits of your training more quickly than you see them. When you start a consistent exercise program within a short amount of time your sleep will improve, mood energy levels raise, there will be an increase in vitality. Changes in body composition will take longer –persevere, consistency in diet and exercise are the key, the changes will come.
What’s the best diet for weight loss?
If its raw and green- it’s a go! Weight loss is about reducing the inflammation in your body so that your system can work effectively. Realistically the only key to success is consistency, slow, steady and sustainable.
How often should I train?
A minimum of 3, 1 hour sessions a week. Anything less than that will feel like you are starting all over again
What should I eat before training?
Eat an easily digested carbohydrate an hour before so you have enough energy for your workout- I eat 1/3 c raw oats with water and honey. Be careful eating dairy before training- its heavier to digest and mucus forming, it can mess with your breathing a bit. Many people eat a bananas before training- a banana is a very rich carbohydrate that takes longer to digest, its perfect for after training.
Are all calories the same?
Carbohydrates are the 1st to be utilized, once the body has used those calories it will begin to use the protein and then the fat. However, if you have not burnt all of your carbohydrate calories during the day any excess protein and fat will be stored as body fat. Alcohol is the only form of calorie (carbohydrate) your muscles cannot burn for fuel, and it slows metabolism- empty calories.
Is fat bad? Can I eat all the fat free food I like?
Its not fat that makes you fat – it’s the total calories consumed and your bodies metabolic rate. Fat is what satisfies our appetite and actually helps weight loss- if its good fats!!! Fat free food has more calories than full fat food and is less satisfying so its easier to keep eating!
