The power of laughter.

Fewel The Power of Laughter

“Friends, I found a breakthrough. You don’t have to wait for anything to happen-no jokes, no humour, no comedy required. Just laugh…” – Dr Madan Kataria

“TICKLING THE MIND.”

- Charles Darwin

“If you want to laugh no one can stop you – don’t take (y)ourselves too seriously.” – Dr Madan Kataria is a medical doctor from India who promotes laughter as a cure for spiritual, physical and psychological ailments. “The laughter club of India” started in 1999 in Mumbai , India with 5 people. Now there are 16,000 laughter clubs across the world. Laughter therapy is used in corporations, prisons, schools, treatment for dis-ease and in the police force. It has been shown to have therapeutic effects on depression, dementia, cancer

“LAUGHTER IS A CHOICE, A CONNECTOR OF PEOPLE. NO BARRIERS. NO LANGUAGE.” – Kataria

Fake Laughter has the same physiological and biological effect as real laughter. Laughter in real life, a few moments, is not enough to have any significant health benefit. In order to see benefits from laughter you need to have a vigorous belly laugh for around 10–15 mins a day. This means you laugh loudly- it comes from the diaphragm. Children laugh from the body all the time when playing. With all the daily stresses we have in the modern world you need to make a commitment to practise laughing- disconnecting from a reason to laugh. Fake it until you make it – scientifically any expression that is experienced in the body can reinforce emotion in the mind.

Laughter yoga uses deep breathing techniques from traditional yoga practise. More breath out on an exhale than when you inhale. This ensures that the residual air in the lungs is completely released – creating more room for oxygen on the inhale which diffuses toxins and inflammation. When your cells are oxygenated you cannot become sick- dis-ease cannot thrive in an oxygen rich environment

“LAUGHTER YOGA IS BASED UPON THE SCIENTIFIC FACT, EVEN IF YOU LAUGH FOR

THE SAKE OF LAUGHING, EVEN IF YOU ARE PRETEND LAUGHING,

YOUR BODY CAN NOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE.”

- Kataria

People are 30 times more likely to laugh when they are in a group than when they are alone. Laughter builds our community and create bonds between people which triggers healthy and emotional changes in the body. It’s a universal language which transcends cultural boundaries, in the process creates a more tolerant society. Did you know that after laughing with friends for 15 mins your pain threshold is boosted by 10%? Your body stays relaxed for 45 mins after a good giggle.Other benefits of laughter include increase in blood flow, immune system efficacy, reduction of stress, shifts perspective, encourages hope, not only that a proper laugh is a great workout for your abdominal muscles, diaphragm and face!!!

Stress is the number 1 killer in the world today. Depression is the number 1 sickness.

We need to be as positive as possible, and learn to see the world in a different way. Laughter is the best medicine and... it feels good!!!
